Domain Name Appraisals: Are They Worth the Cost? |
|
Have you ever thought about having one of your registered domain names appraised, because you were considering selling it and wanted to know what a fair price would be? Maybe you’re just curious about how much your domain is worth? Did the high fees for detailed appraisal services turn you off of the idea, or are you still considering it? Here’s a simple fact: Domain names, just like any other product or service, are worth whatever the market will bear. What that means is that if a domain appraiser tells you that your domain name is worth $2500, but the most you can raise in an auction is $50, then your domain is really worth $50, not $2500. It’s basic economics. The market works on... |

How To Change Domain Names?
Author:
Laurie Mitch
As much as the number of people who open an account for domain names increase, the numbers of people who wish to change domain names also increase. Well, this is just a common situation in the domain name arena today, and many people where doing such adjustments even daily. How to change domain names is the primary concern of this page. So, if you are one of those hundreds of people who wanted to change domain names, but always fall to trap of wondering how to change domain names, this page is definitely right for you. So to change domain names, you need to know several things. One is that, you document and then break all trust connections that exist between the domains whose name you will be adjusting and all the other domains. You should make sure that you remove the trust entry on both sides of the trust. After which, you end all BackOffice services such as the Microsoft Exchange Server, SQL Server, and the Internet Information Server. Set the startup to manual on all these services. So then change domain names on the PDC. If such steps to change domain names are done, you need to reboot the PDC. Rebooting will cause the entry for the new domain to surface in the WINS server. And if you are applying WINS for NetBIOS over the TCP/IP name resolution, you force the copying from the PDC’s primary WINS server to all other WINS servers to transmit the entry for the changed domain. It is also important to consider that the name resolution to the PDC is significant for every BDC for successfully changing to the new domain name. Then to change domain names, you reboot the domain name and restart. After that, you need to force the copying from all WINS servers to transmit the entry and if done, reestablish the trust connection. After that process on how to change domain names, you should also re-enter the service account for each of the BackOffice services that were ended in step two. Pick the account by applying the Startup button instead of typing in the account name and then set the services back to Automatic startup, if necessary. Then you reboot the services in the proper sequence. Finally, to change domain names, you should change domain names on each member server or workstation. But for the down level clients such as Windows 95 or Windows for Workgroups, it is necessary to change the workgroup names to the new domain names. And then the synchronization of the entire domain ends the process to change domain names.

7 Strategies to Choosing an Effective Domain Name |
|
A friend of mine calls me the "Domain Queen", since at one time I owned around 50 domains. I've let many of them go (I own only 22 now) as my business has changed and developed, or I've just simply lost interest in the project. I'm often asked how I go about picking effective domain names, so as the "Domain Queen", I'll share my thought process with you. 1.What's the purpose of the domain name? Are you planning on using this name as the main website for your company, as a one page sales letter site, or squeeze page site? If the domain name will be your primary company website, try and find the closest version to your company name that you can. If you're just starting out, choose your business name and domain name with care. When I started my virtual assistant practice, I chose the name SOHO Business Solutions, as I thought everyone knew that SOHO stood for Small Office, Home Office. I think I've run into 2 people in my 7 years in business who knew what that acronym stood for. If I had it to do over again for this business, I would choose a business name and domain name with virtual assistant in the title, like InternetMarketingVirtualAssistant.com, a name I just recently purchased. If the purpose of a domain is for a one-page sales letter site or a squeeze page, think ahead as to how you might promote this site. Because content is king in today's internet marketing world, there's little chance that either of these types of sites would be picked up by the search engines on key words. Therefore, your best promotion strategy is PPC, or "pay per click", where you're buying keywords for placement in search engines. If you're buying keywords from Google, for example, the paid listings appear at the top of a search in a blue box, or down the right-hand side of... |
